The 2012 Tony Award winner for best musical features a gorgeous folk-pop score, a whimsical barroom set and a bittersweet tale of unrequited love between a down-on-his-luck Irish songwriter and an irrepressible Czech immigrant. Based on the 2006 film starring Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who also wrote the songs, including the Oscar-winning “Falling Slowly.” With an onstage band, the show combines the energy of a concert with moving drama.

The airy harmonies created by Chynna Phillips and Carnie and Wendy Wilson drove such memorable singles as “Hold On,” “Release Me” and “You’re in Love” to the top of the charts in the early ’90s. The trio played Wild Horse Pass last year; the set list included covers of tunes by the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson is Carnie and Wendy’s dad), the Mamas and the Papas (Chynna’s dad was John Phillips) and ABBA.
